ENEL SPA
Enel SPA is an Italian energy company which produces, supplies and distributes both electricity and gas. Enel is actively developing renewable electricity sources and devising new systems for storing electrical energy. It is one of the biggest electricity suppliers in Europe and South America with 73 million customers around the world.
The company was founded by the Italian government in 1962 in a bid to unify the country's national electricity grid. It was restructured into a joint stock company in 1992, before later being privatised in 1999. As of April 2016, the Italian government owns 23.6% of the company's shares.
Enel is present in 34 countries and employs approximately 69,000 people worldwide, having its head office in Rome, Italy.
The company's shares are listed on the FTSE MIB and
its market capitalisation stands at close to 57 billion euros. In 2018, it posted a net profit of 4.8 billion euros.
