Siemens AG

Siemens AG is a German group of companies which designs and produces consumer electrical goods, telecommunications infrastructure, transport technology and medical equipment. Siemens is currently one of the world's biggest producers of electricity generators, locomotives and automated production management systems.

The company was founded in 1847 by the famous German scientist and inventor Werner Von Siemens. It expanded into international markets where it quickly made a name for itself building telegraph lines and designing optical equipment/electromedical appliances.

Siemens shares have the largest weighting (around 9%) of all shares listed on Germany's biggest index—the DAX—and are also weighted in the calculation of other major indices such as the US's Dow Jones and S&P.

The group's market capitalisation stands at around 90 billion euros (as at April 2019) and it posted a net profit of 6.1 billion euros for 2018.
